Ohio Mini-Tour Day 1 - Bellbrook to Sidney

Max and I are doing an easy tour on the rail trail network around Dayton, OH to get in shape for RAGBRAI next week.

Here we are after 60 miles, ready to check in to the Motel 6 in Sidney.

Max did great until about 8 miles until the end, when he was mad we didn't stop for the day in Piqua. He said he was never going to make it and he was going to die if he had to ride one more mile. As soon as we finished he perked right up and became his normal self.

Here we are, all fresh at the start at my sister Mandy's.

We rode six hilly miles on Sunday morning back roads with no traffic to get to the trail in Beavercreek, and then 8 more miles to the center of Dayton.

The trails through Dayton are along the river or rail trails, they are very well maintained and very scenic. The trail along the Great Miami River around Tipp City and Piqua is a canal towpath in places. We saw the remains of a lock at one point. I should have taken a picture and read the historic marker but I didn't.

I did stop to take a picture of this nice covered bridge.

We rode through the bridge to discover that the trail actually stays on the other side of the river, so we rode back across on the modern road right next to the bridge.

Lunch was in Troy at the Submarine House, which was very tasty. Dinner was at the Perkins across the parking lot from the 6, which will get the job done.

Max is excited that there is a Waffle House right across the street for breakfast.

This was a very easy and scenic day of bike touring. It's all flat, no traffic, no stress, almost all nice trails through small towns. We were in before 4:00, taking it easy.

Here is the Strava Track.
